The choreography and direction of Annabelle Lopez Ochoa and Nancy Meckler is certainly more sympathetic to Blanche’s plight than I remember the classic film, featuring Marlon Brando and Vivien Leigh, being. Set in the American south, Scottish Ballet’s staging of the renowned Tennessee Williams’s 1940s play tells the story of two sisters, Blanche and Stella, and how tragedies in Blanche’s life affected her mental wellbeing and both their lives – her breakdown after her husband’s suicide and loss of the family home and fortune, leading her to her sister and brother-in-laws home in New Orleans.
